Costumes
Below is a video explaining our costume choices, please adjust your speakers for your comfort.
In terms of costumes, we had to subvert quite a lot of noir conventions as the clothes needed to be modern and reference the current times. However, for Emma's make up as Zoey we gave a mark up artist a picture of femme fatales like Lyn and Phyllis to recreate this iconic look to make her look as identifiable as a femme fatale as possible. We replaced the typical trench coats for the men with hoodies, because we felt it gave them a sense of unity, and also made Zoey's clothes stand out like a flower among weeds. Brick was the most inspiring film for us in terms of costumes, because it is more recent. For example, we liked how Laura wore red to convey that she is dangerous and so made Zoey consistently wear red throughout.
